CANCELLED!

CIY Move has been cancelled this year.  There are several reasons as to why our group will not be making the trip this year, but it is already on the calendar for next year!

What is CIY Move?

Move is the best high school youth conference. Period. It’s a week of worship, community, discipleship, growth, and amazing fun! It’s a national event, with multiple locations. Our Move conference is at Oregon State University in Corvallis, OR.

Who can go and how much?

This trip is for all youth who will be entering into 9th-12th grade (and those just completing 12th grade). Anyone who has been active in our ministry prior to the trip is eligible to go. Those interested in going must pay a $50 deposit and turn in a permission form to be registered for this trip. CIY also requires their own medical form for this event. The registration deadline is July 19th, but event discounts are available if you complete your total payment by the follow dates:

***  Price Update.  We’ve had to readjust the prices, the reflect the cost of the trip without help from the Youth Ministry budget.  For those interested in going to CIY, we’ll have to work together on a fundraiser.

Early Registered before July 3 and registration paid in full by July 19 $335
Regular Registered after July 3 and registration paid in full by July 19 $360
Late Registration is paid in full after July 19 $385

TrueU – Does God Exist?

truth project

What is TrueU?

TrueU is an apologetics training series primarily geared to help prepare high school students for the rigorous challenges and attacks that will confront them on the university campus.

Dr. Stephen Meyer plays a “philosophical survival game” pitting four worldviews against one another in the quest to decide which one gives the best answer. Dr. Meyer helps you examine the evidence and provides the tools needed to defend your faith and become world changers in an increasingly hostile culture.

Why would you want to do this?

Because you will be faced with questions for the rest of your life about God, and every time that happens is an opportunity for you to share the love of God with someone.  This small group series will help you learn how to answer with wisdom, knowledge, and love, so that others will see and desire the truth.

Who, where and when?

This is for all high school aged youth.

We will be meeting at Luke’s house, ask him for directions!

We will meet every Sunday night from 6:00pm – 7:30pm starting on 4/25/2010 and ending on 6/20/2010.

Questions?

Check out TrueU’s website, or Contact Luke!

Passion

passion cross

What is Passion?

We will be watching the Passion of the Christ together on Friday, April 2nd @ 6pm-9pm in the youth room.  We will debrief and discuss the film afterwards, and have a communion service.

Who can go?

This is open to middle school and high school youth.  You MUST have a permission form in order to watch this movie because it is rated R.  No one under the age of 12 will be allowed to view the film.  No one will be forced to watch this film, and youth who feel uncomfortable continue to watch the film may stop at any point.

Why are we watching this film?

This film provides a unique look into Jesus’ final hours before his crucifixion.  This movie enables us to gain a deeper understanding of the suffering that Jesus went through to purchase our freedom and new life.  We often get stuck with an over-simplified understand of Jesus’ death, and this film can really add some perspective to our understanding.

Should I let my youth watch this film?

This is a choice that must be made by the parent/guardian.  I encourage everyone to see this film, but with the warning that it is rated R due to the graphic violence.  We, the church and the youth ministry, believe that this film will inspire and challenge our youth in their faith, and to experience our living Savior in a new way.  Staff and volunteers will be present during the entire film, and will be available for youth who don’t want to continue watching the film.  Our discussion questions will be made available online after we watch the movie so you can continue the conversation at home.

30 Hour Famine

Our 30 Hour Famine Goals video!

What is the 30 Hour Famine?

The 30 Hour Famine is an opportunity to save the lives of Children in Haiti, by helping to combat hunger and end their cycle of poverty.  Specifically, the Famine is a two part event.  Part one is a two month period of time for raising funds, and part two is a two day (30 hours) event held at SCCC where youth and volunteers will fast from food, learn about and experience hunger and poverty, learn about God’s love and Jesus’ sacrifice, and have an awesome time playing games in a safe environment.

Part One - Fundraising packets will be available starting February 10th.  I will be handing these out Wednesday night.  This packet explains everything you will need to know about raising funds for children in Haiti.

Part Two – Our 30 Hour Famine event starts at 12.00pm on Friday, March 26th, and ends at 8.00pm on Saturday, March 27th.  A full schedule is listed below.

Who can be apart of the Famine?

Anyone who is in 6th-12th grade.  Remember, that the Famine is a two part event, and each youth who participates is expected to be active in each part of the event.  So, youth must take the fundraising aspect of the Famine seriously if they want to experience part two.  If you need a fundraising packet, contact Luke.  A consent form must be turned in to participate in the 30 Hour Famine fundraising and the event on March 26th and 27th. Click here to download it, it is also available on the Downloads page.

If you are a parent:  Work with you kid(s) to raise money, encourage them, and love them!  You can also make donations to our general 30 Hour Famine fund.
