San Francisco Urban Mission Trip 2010

San Fran Overview Video

CSM San Francisco Video from CSM Home Office on Vimeo.

What is the San Fran Urban Missions Trip?

This is an opportunity for our youth to serve God by serving others in the San Francisco and Oakland area of California.  We are working with the Center for Student Missions on this trip.  They have been doing urban mission trips for a long time in cities all across the US.  What’s excited about CSM, is that they offer a WIDE range of urban experiences, that will likely be different each day of our trip.  Our opportunities might include:  preparing meals for the homeless, providing child care for families in poverty, street drama, evangelism, sports ministries, and service projects.  Once we arrive in San Fran, we will always be accompanied by a city host, to help us as we serve.

Who can go?

This trip is for all youth who will be entering into 8th-12th grade (and those just completing 12th grade).  Anyone who has been active in our ministry prior to the trip is eligible to go.  Space is limited. Those interested in going must pay a $50 deposit and turn in a permission form (available later) to be registered for this trip. The registration deadline is April 7th.

How much and what is required?

For those who have been active in our church, the cost of the trip is $225.

We want this to be an awesome experience, that is beneficial to our youth, but also to those that we will serve.  There will be 7 required training sessions before the trip, and 3 follow-up sessions after the trip that all youth and volunteers will be required to attend.

What to bring (and what not to)

    • Loose-fitting, modest, and clothes than can get dirty
    • “Touch the sky, touch your toes, if anything shows, it goes”
    • Shirts must have sleeves, no tank tops, muscle shirts, or spaghetti straps
    • NO SHORTS or capris, we must were long pants to every ministry site.
    • We must refrain from professional and major college sports paraphernalia, all-one color outfits, and bandanas as these are gang-affiliated
    • NO FLIP FLOPS.  You must wear closed-toed shoes that have backs.  We will be doing a lot of walking, so wear something comfortable.
  • Bathroom stuff – toothbrush, towel, etc…  We will take showers every other day, and will have a 5 minute limit.  There will not be much time to “get ready” in the mornings, so don’t bring a bunch of extra stuff (make up, straighteners, razors, perfume, cologne, body sprays, etc…)
  • Bible, journal, pen
  • NO alcohol, tobacco, drugs, guns, knives
  • NO medication without a Medication Form!
  • You can bring mp3 players and cameras, but we will not take these with us during the day
  • You can bring a purse or a backpack, but we will not
