San Fran Updates!

sanfran_videobanner_588

This the placeholder post for San Fran 2010 videos! Our goal is to have daily San Fran videos! Check back each day for a new video. Feel free to leave comments and I’ll share them with the youth during our trip.

Day #6

We spent the early part our day in the Haight Ashbury meeting the needs of some homeless people, and then sharing our lunches in Golden Gate Park.

We spent the end of our last day in San Fran at Fisherman’s Wharf and in Chinatown.

Day #5

We spent today at Laguna Honda Hospital assisting with their 4th of July celebration. We performed in their talent show also. A lot of the residents suffer from drug abuse, advanced dementia, and other debilitating issues. We helped transport them to and from the celebration!

Day #4

Woohoo! Another amazing day. We are thankful for our continued protect and guidance. We spent our morning doing a prayer tour on the Golden Gate bridge. And the rest of our day helping our at the Bay Area Rescue Mission’s King’s Club, when in the summer is a day program for children 7-17. Our youth did a FANTASTIC job loving on these kids in Richmond California. We helped with lunch, snack, dinner, bible study, education time, and free time. Several youth said this was their favorite thing yet. We also learned the tradition New Zealand Haka war dance from a visiting volunteer.

We finished off the day with some Ethiopian food, which we all enjoyed!

Day #3

We spent the morning at St. Vincent dePaul’s Diner serving the homeless and helping their organization. Taylor, Tyler, and I emptied 1000 cartons of putrid milk, and then moved on to draining fermented lettuce while the rest of our crew helped to serve food.

Then we went on a “city search” in order to experience homelessness in a small way. We had to interact with people to find places, learn peoples stories, and creative spend 8 dollars to feed people on the street (we fed 9!)

We ended the night with some local Vietnamese / Chinese Fusion food. A great day three.
